Good morning, Susan
Last summer, our family moved cities and we began attending a new church. The ladies from the church invited me to their ladies' Bible Study and, honestly, I did not want to attend. In the past, my contact with typical ladies' Bible studies, conferences, and books have left me hungry for the true Word and frustrated at the prevalent attitude in women's ministry that does not appear to desire to teach women.
At my husband's gentle prompting, I complied and attended study. To my surprise and delight, I found that we were being fed the Word - just the Word, only the Word. The church was using your James Bible study material! However, as our dear pastor's wife is an enthusiastic teacher, the ladies had completed the first half of the study the previous year and we have spent the last nine months completing the second half. As we just wrapped up last week, this morning I decided to go back to the beginning to study the half I missed. This time, I decided to read the foreword and introduction, and I nearly spit my coffee across the counter as I laughed reading this excerpt from the introduction:
"Perhaps you have just picked up this book in a bookstore and are saying to yourself, 'Oh good, another book by another woman author. Honestly, don't these women have anything else better to do with their time than to write emotionally charged books for women?' Well, hold on there, 'Podner'. This is not another emotionally charged, felt-needs book written by a woman."
"It is my deepest desire to equip women to be women of The Word. To be women who will not be led away by false teachers of our day, but women who are discerning and able to study and apply truth for themselves.
My Bible studies are... written to reveal the truth of God's Word as it is written."
I am so thankful for what the Lord has provided through your faithfulness to Him and His Word. As Colossians 1:3-6 says, "We thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and the love you have for all of the saints - the faith and love that spring from the hope that is stored up for you in heaven and that you have already heard about in the word of truth, the gospel that has come to you. All over the world this gospel is bearing fruit and growing, just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and understood God's grace in all its truth." Please be assured of our prayer for you as you continually and faithfully serve our King!
